Grey Mottled Celt
Caribbean region, possibly Santo Domingo,
Taino Culture, Ca. 900 to 1500 A.D., Grey stone,
Height: 12 inches.

This beautiful dark grey mottled stone celt is a fairly large, and quite elongated example of the type.  With a highly polished surface this is another great touch piece, something pleasurable to hold, and to look at.  Patterned after axes that would have been used, when attached to a wooden shaft for a handle, these beautifully finished examples show no signs of wear, and were probably ritual objects, on their own.  This is a particularly nice one.
